Nouveautés! 2019-2020

Dear students,

First of all, I hope you are all having an excellent summer whether you are exploring foreign lands, or enjoying a relaxing time in Belgium.

I'd like to thank you all of you who were part of the Forró Brussels family in the forró season 2018-2019 - without you, none of this would be possible!

Forró Brussels has evolved hugely since I started teaching in 2014, and the classes have gone through multiple configurations as the community has developed and grown. Now is the time to introduce a new format for the classes to enable each and every student to develop at the rhythm which suits them best.

|| THE IMPROVEMENTS

  • Each level will remain in the same time slot for multiple trimesters so you can spend as much time as you need in each level.

  • The content for each level will be shared regularly to give you a clearer idea of where you are currently at and what your next steps will be.

  • Each trimester will include a session dedicated to personal feedback from the teacher, the assistants in the class and your peers to better personalise your learning.

  • 30 minutes of practice time will be added between the two classes to provide more time for you to practice what you have learnt and to promote connections between the levels.

  • When you register for level 2 or 3, you also gain access to the lower level classes to consolidate your basics and/or learn the opposite role. (There are a few conditions applicable to ensure optimum learning conditions for everyone - see the FAQ and Conditions for more info.)

  • There will be two level 1 classes per week: to better develop the community and give you all the opportunity to continue to learn while consolidating your basics which are the foundation of a good dance.

  • As a result, a Double-Trimester payment option will be introduced for students who would like to follow two classes per week. (See the FAQ for more info on this).

|| THE LEVELS

One of my big projects this summer was to take my experience of 5 years of teaching forró and combine it with the research I'm currently doing in Brazil to refine and improve the content of each level and to shift to a skills-based approach to better reflect my vision of the dance. For this reason, the levels do not correspond directly to the levels from last year.

Level 1: Forró Discovery

Level 2: Forró Exploration

Level 3: Forró Evolution

The new programme aims to improve how you remember the content learnt and your ability to apply it on the dancefloor, to make the "invisible" skills required for good following more concrete and practise-able, and to focus on sensitivity, body consciousness and control which are crucial for those magical, out-of-this-world dances.

To help you find your level, you can read the descriptions of each level on the website and also join us for an orientation session on Monday 9th September at 20h15 and/or on Wednesday 11th September at 19h where we'll dance with you and advise you which level will most benefit you.

|| WORKSHOPS

Following your positive feedback on the Thursday classes from last year, the thematic workshops will continue on Thursdays once every two weeks. We have also taken into account your feedback on the Salle Dublin practice sessions, which will now be longer - 3h! - and will take place twice a month (alternating with the workshops).

The workshop dates and topics will be published at the end of August for the full September December period to ensure you don't miss out on topics you're interested in.

|| REGISTRATION

…is now open!! Fill in the following form to sign up: https://forms.gle/KxCTacvS9WSk77Ym6

If you are not sure which level to register for, you can register as "level pending" and we will help you to make the right decision at the orientation sessions on 9th September and 11th September.

Students who sign up and pay before 31st August get one thematic workshop included in the price (not applicable to flexi-trimester, free workshop must be taken between Sept-Dec). This includes "level pending" registrations.

If you have any questions, just drop me an email at dance@sarahforro.com and I'll do my very best to help!

|| CLOSING

I said it at the start of this message but it's so important I'm going to say it again: without you, this forró community would not be possible. Thank you to everyone who is a part of it, and I'm looking forward to this new season!

Abraços,

Sarah
